North American Beaver

This regular visitor to our pond is also known as the Canadian Beaver.  He weighs about 40-50 lbs and is a very active rodent.  He is seen here munching on some aquatic plants, mainly water lilies and pond weeds, oh, and did I mention, he fell the odd tree this past week; four of them to be exact!!  "That will be enough spring cleanup from you big guy!  If you take my weeping willows, then we have a problem!!"

Our feathered and furry loved ones have everything they need right here to survive the winter elements ....

Four basic habitat components they require is:

SPACE ✓
FOOD ✓ 
WATER ✓
COVER ✓

Let's just say our residents are pleasantly spoiled....we even captured some eating out of the palm of our hand !!

Out on a Limb !!

This little Red Squirrel ''went out on a limb" for me today.... literally!!!!  He could have made a jump for it, but, he chose to stick around so I could capture a pose or two !!

He sure was curious.... 

Did you know that squirrels have four front teeth that never stop growing?....Northern Red Squirrels eat seeds, roots, tree sap, and insects....In the wintertime, some Red Squirrels hibernate in little tunnels or burrowing holes....That's not the case here; we have lots of visitors feeding on our homemade suet trays that are filled with lots of peanut butter, raisins, nuts and seeds to keep their cheeks pudgy and their bellys full and warm during the long winter months!! Speaking of which....

Willow Tree with a Face!

On our canoe trip the other day, we came upon this willow tree standing on the side of the bank.. It has the shape of face with a little nose and eyes just above the 'wide open mouth'... Not exactly the Harry Potter whomping willow tree, but unique in its own way!

Two Against One

I anticipate that there was a Blue Jay nest in this tree and they were protecting it.  After about 5 min and a few feathers shed, the Bald Eagle got fed up and flew to another nearby tree.. With his wings covering his head as he flies away, one would think he was humiliated by the outcome!
